Langholm Initiative Investing for Future
The Langholm Initiative is one of Scotland's oldest community development Trusts and was originally set up to tackle economic decline in the textile industry within Langholm. In 2020, the Trust raised £3.8 million to buy the Langholm Moor to show the community that nature can play a part in economic success and create a successful tourism industry for the community. The Langholm Initiative have repurposed the Moor completely and now envision it being used as a wild area of teaching in order to educated younger people on how vital it is to look after what is left of our wild land. Meanwhile, the Langholm Initiative will also be working towards restoring the Moor's Peatland in order to make it more efficient in absorbing and storing carbon from our atmosphere, tackling climate change in the process.
